This is an example of movie soundtrack I wrote, it’s just a snippet of the entire work, here I am playing keyboards. I used them to play each single line of the orchestra you can hear in this composition.

This is an “evergreen” question which I keep hearing around and reading about on music related forums and websites, so here is my modest contribution trying to answer such a complex question… … Continue Reading

1 What are fundamental characteristics of Progressive Rock?

Fundamentals of Progressive Rock - Part 1

Often while chatting with friends and students, questions about “what is exactly” or “what are fundamental characteristics” of Progressive Rock compositions comes up.

What I noticed is that many people think that the fundamental characteristics are just presence of Spare Time Signatures (or Odd Time Signatures) and a keyboard player who can play solos… Honestly I find this a wrong definition and also very reductive, so here is some (and I repeat SOME) of the “must have” in order to define a track Progressive Rock or Progressive Metal. With that said remember that music is ART, so it is CREATIVITY mostly and therefore rules are made to be followed and to be broken (when you’ve learned them really well and you became capable of mastering them!).

Hi everyone,

this is my music related blog, here you will find posts about music composition techniques, different instruments techniques, orchestration, arrangements, sound recording, mixing and mastering, so more or less about what I do as composer, performer and producer.

If you prefer less music technical posts and/or you like Progressive Rock Metal I recommend you to read Obsidian Key’s “Diary from the studio” a blog about my best known project which aim to “document” all the music creation process for each album and single of one of the most popular new progressive rock metal project! You can find Obsidian Key – Diary from the studio here.

Thanks for reading and really hope you’ll enjoy the experience!

  • · About

I am studying as music producer and I already practice this amazing art with some local band here in Brighton…

After years playing and composing music, being a sound engineer I think the logical evolution would be to get into the secret art of music production.

I am specialized in the following music genres:

1) Progressive Rock, Progressive Metal

2) Rock, Rock-Blues

3) Heavy Metal and Hard Rock

4) Pop

5) Movie soundtracks

Please click on the music genre you’re interested into to have examples of my productions.
